Apr 11 2014 back to the op question. we have a single drum double drum and wide belt sander in our shop. the differences to me are mainly one - the wide belt oscillates back and forth slightly as it runs. so unlike a drum that will leave lines on the wood the wide belt does better at line free sanding.
